About Artist
Besiana Shehi, operates as an independent professional and currently manages Ironbrush – Linoprint Art Studiobased in Tirana. She also curates and promotes the artistic projects of artist Klodian Luca.
The studio serves as a creative space dedicated to promoting traditional printmaking techniques, particularly linocut (linoprint), and will soon expand its artistic portfolio to include bas-relief artworks. Through its activities, the studio contributes to the preservation and promotion of traditional artistic practices and Albanian cultural heritage.
THE CALL OF THE STONE – THE LEGEND OF THE MAIDEN’S GORGE CARVED IN BAS-RELIEF
Abstract
The artwork will represent a fusion of contemporary art and history, giving tangible form to an event that embodies the sacrifice, strength, and dignity of Albanian women. Through this artistic technique, the artist will bring the legend to life, transforming it into a lasting cultural asset to be installed in the northern part of the Kruja Highlands, the very place where the historic event is believed to have occurred.
The bas-relief, measuring approximately 90 cm in height and weighing around 50 kg, will be installed on a rock face or wall, becoming a new point of interest for both domestic and international visitors. The work will reflect not only the intangible heritage preserved through legend, but also the value of art as a powerful tool for safeguarding collective memory.
The creative and innovative aspect of the project lies in transforming the legend into a physical and enduring artistic expression through the integration of tradition and contemporary artistic practice.
