Architecture of Memory
Abstract
The proposed work focuses on the Mosque of Gjin Aleksi in Delvinë, a unique structure characterized by the architectural interplay between the elements of an early church and later Ottoman additions. Through audiovisual art and experimental media, the project proposes a visual interpretation of this historical and cultural convergence.
Using artificial intelligence, images of the former church will be reconstructed based on historical narratives and sketches, alongside visual representations of the incorporation of Islamic ritual elements built upon its foundations. These two visual layers—the church and the mosque—will then be separated, transformed, and symmetrically merged to form a shield or canopythat symbolically protects a central human figure.
This creative and innovative gesture aims to visualize coexistence and the negotiation of historical change, embracing the duality between heritage and adaptation. The visual development process integrates history, art, and technology, creating an immersive experience that engages both attention and critical reflection.
